Preliminary election results have been posted by the offices of the Los Angeles County Registrar and the California Secretary of State.

Gov. Gavin Newsom cruised to a comfortable lead while it looks like Sheriff Alex Villanueva failed to secure more than 50% of the vote so he will be part of a November runoff election with former Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna.

According to LA County, there are 5,690,637 registered voters; of that only 822,545 people voted in the primary election, a little over 14%.

The Secretary of State will certify the results on July 15. CVW will continue to update or for more information go to lavote.net
