Chinese New Year Celebrated at Lincoln

Lincoln parent Amy Taylor explained Chinese New Year to a class at the school.

Lincoln parent Amy Taylor shouts out “Gung Hay Fat Choy” as she walked into Miss Bakamjian second grade class at Lincoln Elementary. It is Chinese New Year and Miss B’s class was going to get a lesson on customs and tradtions of Chinese New Year.

Taylor explained the Chinese zodiac signs and read the children their horoscope. They enjoyed crafts, a large red paper lantern (red is a color of good luck) and making an orgami bunny. This is the year of the rabbit.

At the end of lesson, the class made a big red banner with Happy New Year written in Chinese. This was the sixth year Taylor has shared Chinese New Year with Lincoln students. She explained that it is not only the Chinese who celebrate

Lunar New Year, but other Asian cultures including the Japanese and Koreans.
