Ryan Wallace of Troop #509 achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was born on May 9, 1995 to Roger and Veronica Wallace. He has one older brother, Adam, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout last year.

Wallace has grown up in the foothills above Sunland and began his scouting adventure at the age of 5 with Pack 326. He advanced through the ranks of Tiger Cubs, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. After satisfying those requirements, he received the coveted Arrow of Light, then bridged into Boy Scouts, joining Troop 509 to take advantage of the numerous activities and progressive leadership attitude.

He has served in the following leadership positions with troop 509: Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Librarian, Patrol Guide and Senior Patrol Leader. Over the last several years, Wallace has been on numerous Scout outings including several back packing trips and other events. His favorite outings were Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, San Gabriel Peak trail and the Pyramid Lake ski trip. However, he most enjoyed the backpacking trip to Philmont last summer. He spent 10 days on an 80 mile backpacking trip with six other Scouts, his dad and one other father in the New Mexico Mountains at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Wallace’s Eagle project consisted of planning and raising funds to do a renovation project at Tujunga Little League fields. His project included replacing the dugout benches and refinishing the field spectator bleachers. He grew up playing at the Little League fields for nine years and wanted to give something back to that organization.

During his project, he led 23 volunteers and donated over 100 hours of volunteer service. The bleachers and dugouts are now enjoyed safely by spectators and players that come to the park every year.

Wallace is currently a sophomore at Verdugo Hills High School, where he currently is recognized as an honor student. During the fall, he plays water polo on the  varsity team and last year he was honored as rookie of the year. This year he was recognized as MVP.

During the spring, he is a starting third baseman on Verdugo hills junior varsity baseball team.

One of Wallace’s ambitions is to attend the Annapolis Naval Academy in Maryland and become a Marine Corps fighter jet pilot and serve his country.

Early last year, he became certified as a lifeguard so he could get a job at Pyramid Lake during the summer. Over that summer, he had numerous documented water related rescues and saved several lives. He is hoping to again get a job working this summer back at the lake.
