The Lanterman House is hosting an event today, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. for community members with a passion for local history who might be interested in becoming a volunteer at La Cañada’s historic house museum.

The museum offers a range of events, including public tours, school programs and lectures, and its team of volunteers is essential to making sure they run smoothly. Volunteers can train to become docents, offer hospitality and organizational support for special events, join the gardening team, or assist with behind-the-scenes activities such as holiday decorating or preparing social media posts.

“All of the wonderful events and services the Lanterman House provides for the community are only possible because of the dedication and support of our volunteers,” said Laura Verlaque, executive director of the Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation. “They’re such a vibrant, fun group of people and we’re always looking to find more people to join in. Our training is brief and personalized; and we offer very flexible scheduling.”

An informal coffee hour will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. to welcome potential new volunteers and explain the volunteer program.

Volunteers are asked to become members of the Lanterman House and attend four-to-six one-hour training sessions to learn about the history of the family and their home.

Anyone interested can contact Laura Verlaque at (818) 790-1421 or email lantermanhouse@gmail.com for more information. Individualized training and time commitments can be arranged.
