Guests of the La Cañada-Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild (LCFOG) are in for a treat at the Book and Author Luncheon on Oct. 25. Well-known local weatherman Dallas Raines and his wife Dannie will be at the luncheon to present their book “Chester and the Hot Air Balloon,” a story that will capture the hearts of children and adults alike.
LCFOG is a local organization of women who feel every child should have the right to the best orthopedic care available regardless of their financial situation. Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) in downtown Los Angeles makes this happen through their world class physicians and surgeons. LuskinOIC’s Ambulatory Surgery Center experienced a 0% infection rate, better than the national average, and surgical outcomes were among the best in the nation. It was recently announced that the LuskinOIC/UCLA affiliation will soon be open for adult orthopaedic services on the downtown campus.
LCFOG supports LuskinOIC in many ways but most importantly with the long-awaited Book and Author Luncheon on Oct. 25 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Cañada. Parking is complimentary. Guests will enjoy lunch, peruse the raffle, bid on silent auction gifts and participate in the “Bonus Board,” which will be full of valuable gift cards.
Among others, authors Dallas and Dannie Raines will be on hand to autograph their book for guests. Dannie is a writer, philanthropist and wife of meteorologist Dallas. She is a UCLA graduate with a degree in journalism and communications. She served on the organizing committee for the Community Scholarship Foundation of La Cañada Flintridge, and collaborated with her husband on their mission to serve youth by educating readers about earth sciences or as she puts it, “our wacky weather.”
Dannie takes her husband’s tales of weather woes, adds some educational information about the climate, and gets a narrative of a grand adventure.
Dallas is an American journalist, as well as chief meteorologist, who joined the ABC7 network in 1984 and has been working there ever since providing evening weather reports. He received a BS degree from Florida State University in broadcast journalism and earth science with emphasis on meteorology. As a certified broadcast meteorologist, he went through meticulous examination by the American Meteorological Society. Dallas received an invitation to the White House to participate in a debate with 30 other scientists and climatologists on global warming hosted by former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. His awards are too numerous to mention; however, he was voted Best Weather Presenter/World Competition Level in Paris, France, and the Daily News Peoples’ Choice Award for Best Weatherperson.
A joint statement from the couple shares their hope that children have as much fun reading their book as they had creating the tale of their family pet, Chester, the Pawsome Weather Pup. This book tells of great adventures as well as introduces meteorological, climatological and earth science themes.
