EVAN J. MARSHALL COMING TO CENTER

Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta welcomes Evan J. Marshall, mandolinist and violinist extraordinaire for a concert at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27. Besides being the master of solo mandolin playing in duo-style, he is known throughout the Southwest as Relaxin’ Jackson, fiddler in Cody Bryant’s Riders of the Purple Sage, and in the Pacific Northwest as Billy Mandolin of Billy and the Hillbillies. Evan, who is classically trained, has been a featured guest artist with numerous symphony orchestras. He gives solo concerts and recitals, performs for private and corporate events and is a much sought after instructor.

JOURNEY WITH LA
CAÑADA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Everyone is invited to this four-session series of classes about “Being one of Christ’s people in the world.” La Cañada Presbyterian Church is offering these four classes which are an overview of the basics of our faith.

The first class will be held on Friday, Feb. 25 from 7-9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church’s Demarest Family Life Center. This class will be led by Pastor Gary Dennis and is an overview of what theology says about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Church – four basic ideas for people who want to “be Christ’s people in the world.”

The second class, led by Rev. Chuck Osburn, is an overview of the Bible and how the Bible helps to be Christ’s people in the world.  This class will be held Sunday, March 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 308 of the Demarest Family Life Center.

The third class follows with Rev. Kristin Leucht leading a discussion of how to discover the right resources for helping of a deepening of faith. Join Leucht on Sunday, March 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., also in Room 308 of the Demarest Family Life Center.

Finally, Rev. Jim Milley leads an experience that will help identify a path for learning and growing to represent Christ well at home, work and all places. This final class takes place on Friday, March 25, from 7-9 p.m. in Room 309 of the Demarest Family Life Center.

ST. BEDE’S HOSTING EVENTS

The American Red Cross will be at St. Bede the Venerable Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, Feb. 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to collect donations of blood and marrow. All participants will receive a Mimi’s Café free appetizer, two tickets to the L.A Galaxy and entered into a region spa package drawing. St. Bede is holding a new six-week bereavement support program called Good Grief. The support group series gets underway on Tuesday, March 8 and meets for six Tuesdays March 8-April12. The sessions will include moving through grief, coping with loneliness and depression, What is Good Grief and Bad Grief?, stress management, living to live alone and learning to let go. Sessions will be held at St. Bede. All sessions are held in the John XXIII Room and are facilitated by trained members of the St. Bede bereavement ministry. Additionally, a discussion-oriented group “Beyond Good Grief” meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Center.

Every year St. Bede the Venerable School holds its annual “BedeFest” fundraiser. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the children of St. Bede School by providing much-needed funds to sustain St. Bede’s
exceptional academic programs and to assist with tuition. The 2010 Bedefest event raised approximately $85,000. This year’s event will be held on March 5. Tickets are $85/person and include a gourmet dinner buffet and beverages and also dancing to the music of a DJ.

The fundraising will include a
silent and live auction of products
and services donated by local merchants and school parents. There will also be a Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament and many other casino style games.

“Casino Royale” will be held at the Oakmont Country Club, 3100 Country Club Drive in Glendale. The evening will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Cocktail attire and black tie optional are called out as the dress for the elegant evening.

DIXIELAND BAND TO PERFORM IN

CELEBRATION

Honoring Mardi Gras and the spirit of New Orleans, St. George’s Episcopal Church will offer a special Eucharist on Sunday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. that will feature old time, hand clappin’ hymns led by the Crown City Dixieland Band. At the close of the service, those in attendance will follow the band in a procession down to the church hall for more music and a waffle bar.

The band, which takes its name from the city of Pasadena, consists of members from all around the
San Gabriel Valley. The Crown City Dixieland Band has been described as “one of Southern California’s most popular Dixieland bands” by the Society for the Preservation of Dixieland Jazz.

All are welcome to participate in this unique and joyful worship experience that takes place the last Sunday before a more solemn and penitential season of Lent.

BARRIERS TO WHOLENESS” CLASSES BEGIN

St. Luke’s Anglican Church begins classes on “Overcoming Barriers to Wholeness: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual” on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Led by Rector Fr. Rob Holman, these classes will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church offices, 3901 Foothill Blvd., first floor, in La Crescenta. These classes will include music, teaching and healing prayer according to the Christian faith. Future classes will be held on the fourth Friday of each month. Jesus loved to heal and St. Luke’s hope is to offer a healing touch to all who attend. Every member of the community is invited and welcome to attend.
