Sad Sendoff

Angels walk amongst us – or maybe you haven’t noticed. We are so consumed with negativity that frequently we are blinded to the goodness that surrounds us. Our very own Crescenta Valley had a special Angel for decades. Whenever and wherever there was a need or a void our special Angel would find a way to fill that void or solve that problem. When our servicemen in the Middle East were feeling abandoned and forgotten, our Angel marshaled forces to ship hundreds of boxes filled with necessities and goodies to the front lines. Our local veterans wanted to build a fitting memorial to our fallen soldiers in Two Strike Park, but funding was lacking. Our special Angel stepped up to the plate and helped organize multiple events to raise those needed funds. The impressive Memorial at Two Strike Park stands as a tribute to our fallen heroes and to our community as well.

Thanks to our Angel’s partnership with The Early Rodders car club and local first responders, the victims of 9/11 are not forgotten. A touching motorcade throughout the foothills reminds us each year that we must be forever vigilant and grateful to those who protect us.

Our community Angel was extremely active in PTA and was a constant volunteer and supporter of all things that promoted better education within the Glendale Unified School District and across the foothills. Working with the YMCA, Boy Scouts Verdugo Hills Council and Glendale Rotary and for years volunteering and acting in leadership roles within the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce, our community Angel was instrumental in the growth of many important local programs: the promotion of local businesses, Prom Plus and the Pinola/CVCC Educational Foundation. She assured that the beloved Fourth of July Fireworks event would flourish. Other groups and special projects – too numerous to mention – also benefited from the extraordinary support of our Angel.

Many community boards were fortunate to have had our community Angel’s assistance – Glendale Memorial Hospital, Boy Scouts Verdugo Hills Council, Committee for a Clean and Beautiful Glendale are only a few that have benefited from her creative, innovative ideas and hard work.

All of these gifts to us were given while working behind the scenes. Giving was our Angel’s touchstone, receiving thanks or accolades, public or private, were shunned.

Our beloved community Angel had a full and rewarding private life in addition to her public service. She was a loving and supportive mother to two children, Julie Maluccio Dowse, who blessed her with two beautiful granddaughters, Dana and Allison; and son Michael who, with his lovely wife Tina, gave her a third granddaughter, Alix.

Sadly, our beautiful, remarkable Angel was called home on Oct. 12, 2022.

Jean, your family, your friends and your beloved community shall forever miss you and grieve over the void you have left. You are loved. Rest in Peace, Jean Maluccio.

On behalf of the entire Crescenta Valley,

Eleanor Wacker

Goodbye to Community Friend

On the afternoon of Oct. 12 we learned of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Jean Maluccio. Jean was a gift to our community and a personal friend to those of us who had the privilege of knowing her and working with her. Jean’s life was her family and her Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

We will truly miss this great lady and caring friend. Jean leaves us with a footprint which is unique and will always be there for us to follow.
