On Saturday, the La Crescenta Woman’s Club hosted Movie with Santa, a spin on the club’s classic Breakfast with Santa. The Club has hosted the holiday event for as long as anyone can remember; however, during the pandemic clubmembers adapted by hosting a drive-through version of the Christmas celebration. Happily, this year the Club was able to return to an in-person event.

Coordinator Marilyn Wright said this version of the event was very successful and enjoyed by the dozens who attended. It included a screening of the classic Christmas film “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and Santa was on-site, ready to hear guests’ wishes, take a photo or two and hand out gold coins. Elves from CV High School rather than the North Pole lent a hand, too.

A silent auction was a popular attraction for parents. While the kids watched the movie or worked on crafts, parents looked over the many items that were part of the silent auction. These included special edition Barbie dolls from the 1990s and gift cards for yogurt shop Tutti Frutti and ice cream shop Moo Moo Mia, among others.

“Lots of people and companies helped with donations,” said Wright. “We’ve always had a positive and welcoming response to this event.”

Wright added that though events like Movie with Santa are gaining in popularity, the La Crescenta Woman’s Club was one of the first to hold this type of holiday celebration. She said that clubmembers wanted to continue to bring joy to families during the holidays.

“We’re happy to have this event,” she said. “It gives the community a chance to come back together.”
