How the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Grant Program will Benefit CA

In 2021, Congress passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – a long-overdue and historic investment in our nation’s transportation and infrastructure. After four years of “infrastructure week” with no infrastructure, this bill will bring millions in funding to California and help communities up and down the state.

The infrastructure bill provides funding to repair and build new sidewalks, bridges, roads and bike lanes. It will also help expand our electric vehicle charging capacity, improve our public transportation infrastructure and update our local airports so they can meet the needs of our communities.

Many communities in Los Angeles are disproportionately impacted by gaps in our infrastructure and transportation systems and, as a result, are disconnected from stable jobs, good schools, clean water, high-speed broadband and community resources. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will right those wrongs by making historic investments focused on connecting these underserved communities to opportunity. It will help ensure better access to affordable internet, more reliable transportation options and clean drinking water.

California is on track to receive nearly $385 million over the next five years to expand our electric vehicle charging capabilities with more funding available to communities through EV-focused grants. I have long been championing making electric vehicles accessible and affordable for my constituents, and this funding is a huge step in the right direction.

One of the most notable benefits our district will see from these grants is an update to our region’s airports through an airport terminal grant program. Our airports have been a source of noise pollution for surrounding communities, have become outdated over the years and are not equipped to handle the high number of passengers that utilize them. As part of this airport grant program, I secured $30 million in funding for the Hollywood Burbank Airport. These critical funds will be used towards constructing a brand new, energy-efficient terminal building and reducing noise pollution for residents in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Additionally, the Los Angeles International Airport will receive $50 million in funding through the grant program to improve the terminals’ roadways and update terminal parking. Both airports are critical to connecting our communities to the world, providing jobs for people who call our district home and stimulating our local economy through tourism.

Over the two decades that I have served in the U.S. House, I have been a vocal advocate for infrastructure investments and now we will have a rebuilding effort the likes of which we have not seen since the Eisenhower Administration. These dollars are an investment in our future and coupled with an even stronger investment in our human infrastructure will help pave the way to a more prosperous future for all Americans.
