Crescenta Valley High School track team on Thursday, March 3 faced its first non-league meet against Canyon High at Canyon. For the varsity girls, senior Diane Lombardi took an early lead to won the 800 (2:33.5) followed by junior Brook Moultrie taking second. (2:37.6). Sophomore Cali King came up with a significant win in the 1600 (5:32), along with senior Claudia Pham winning the 3200 (12:11) and senior Annake Kakebeen winning the 300H (51.2) and triple jumper junior grader Laura White jumping 31’4. Although CV posted some excellent early season times, Canyon secured the victory. CV lost 83-52.
The CV varsity boys lost 103-35. Junior Josh Straschewski won a victory running the 110H (16.7) and senior Andrew Roide won the high jump (6’4”). Senior Bob Anderson took second in the 1600 (4:40.8) and junior Michael Duncan placed second in the 800 (2:08.1). Senior Parker Averill took second in the 200m (23.4). Senior David Aguilar took second in the 300H (46’6).
Coach Mark Evans responded to his varsity loss.
“Overall, I thought we competed very well. Canyon is a strong, balanced team. We are young in a couple areas and don’t quite have the depth in some of the events that Canyon has,” Evans said. “We will get stronger as a team.”
