Initiative Would Give CVWD Customers More Power Over Future CVWD Revenue Grabs

Please read about and support the California Initiative “Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act,” which will be on the 2024 ballot. It is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and will, for example, give CVWD customers much more say over when and how new revenue is raised.

See https://www.hjta.org/news-events/taxing-times-online-spring-2023/taxpayer-protection-initiative-qualifies-for-2024-ballot/.

I believe CVWD pushed through the property fee this year (2023) so it would not have to comply with the restrictions that would be imposed on CVWD by the Taxpayer Protection Act if it passes in 2024.

If the Taxpayer Protection Act passes in 2024, I believe we can then challenge CVWD to retroactively comply with it with respect to the property fee (i.e., “Any fee approved between January 1, 2022 and the effective date of this measure would be nullified unless it fulfills the requirements of the measure” where “the measure” refers to the Taxpayer Protection Act – from
