The Assistance to Firefighters grant has awarded $1,142,400 to the Glendale Fire Department for 12 lead EKG monitor defibrillators with Capnography and Carbon Monoxide monitoring capability. This is a regional grant award that involves the cities of Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Monterey Park and Arcadia.

The new defibrillators will enable responders to transmit recorded ECG information to an admitting emergency department or medical doctor there by shortening in hospital treatment by as much as 30 to 60 minutes. With this advance information, receiving emergency rooms can prepare for immediate patient assessment and rapid treatment.

These new units will replace old and outdated technologies, improve response efficiency and provide critical moments that often determine a successful outcome for the patient.

This critical equipment will improve our medical response capabilities in providing optimum care. The Carbon Monoxide will serve as an additional diagnostic tool allowing paramedics to monitor Carbon Monoxide levels for both responders and patients. Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, tasteless gas that is responsible for claiming the lives of thousands of Americans each year.
