Voting is less than a month away here in Montrose, Verdugo City and La Crescenta. It’s time to meet your candidates, read up on the special ballot measures and be prepared to make an informed choice. So many times I have gone to cast my ballot to fill political seats or vote on bonds and measures and I have no idea who to vote for! I usually just randomly pick names with limited information on who I am voting for or I simply do not vote at all. What a shame to have to right to vote and give that right away.
This might seem like a small decision or very inconsequential, but that is not true. We will have the opportunity to vote for two Glendale City Councilman positions. With six people running and only two positions to fill it is important you know where each candidate stands. The Glendale City Council generally functions as a congressional style legislative body, proposing bills, holding votes, and passing laws to help govern the city. These council members make very important decisions in our community and have the power to help us with the issues that affect our city! This is your chance to help elect candidates that will make decisions on your behalf. Traffic issues, police safety, building codes and permits, emergency management, and the list goes on.
That is why the Montrose Verdugo-City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Glendale City Council Candidates forum on March 21 at 7 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center. We will have all six city council candidates up here right in our own backyard to ask them the questions we need the answers to. Do you have a question for the Glendale City Council candidates? Please email mvcc@montrosechamber.org, log onto our website at www.montrosechamber.org or call (818) 249-7171 with your questions. You will also be able to submit written questions at the event. We need everyone’s participation to make this a great success.
When you vote you will also have the opportunity to cast your ballot for two seats on the Glendale Unified School District board of education and the Glendale Community College board of trustees. There will also be a school bond measure (Measure S) on the ballot for your consideration.
When you head to the polls on April 5, be sure you make an informed decision. Here is a website to help you with that: Glendalevotes.org was created by the City of Glendale and will give you all the information you need. You can find the voting location, meet all the candidates and learn about the special ballot measure.
Don’t forget to join us in Montrose-Verdugo City, home of many of the city’s finest bars and eating establishments, for St. Patrick’s Day! Many restaurants and bars will be having special meals and special deals for you to enjoy. Not sure where to go?
