Mary Moss

Jan. 17, 1927 – Aug. 16, 2023

Our beloved mother, Mary Mable Moss, peacefully departed this world on Aug. 16 in her home in La Crescenta. She graciously lived with a calm sense of dignity, courtesy and purpose to an impressive 96 years of age.

Mary was born on Jan. 17, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Blanche and George Fox. She grew up during the tough times of the Depression with her older sister Dorthea in Houston, Texas, and triumphed over adversity to realize her dreams of becoming a registered nurse and a dedicated caring mother. Together with her devoted husband Hubert Moss they enthusiastically raised their five children in Eau Gallie, Florida and La Crescenta.

Mary was an active parishioner in the St. James Church community for more than 50 years. She also loved serving the patients in her care at Glendale Adventist Hospital, exercising with her friends at YMCA water aerobics, and being a proud member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. With a spirit of adventure, she also shared a passion for trying new international travel experiences with her grown children.

Throughout her life’s journey, our mother’s deep faith in God, love, family and friends gave her the joy and strength to live every day as a gift to be treasured. Her kind and gentle spirit will continue to be an inspiration for all of us and forever shine a warm, guiding light on our paths ahead.

Mary Moss is survived by her daughters JoAnn Mays and Helen Moss; her sons Stephen Moss and Paul Moss. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert and two sons, David and Mark Moss.

Her family, relatives and friends celebrated a funeral mass service in her honor on Sept. 13 at Saint James Catholic church in La Crescenta and her ashes were interred next to her late husband, Hubert, at San Fernando Mission Catholic cemetery.

Rest in peace, dear Mary, for you will always be remembered, always be missed, and forever be cherished.
