LCIF
Lutheran Church in the Foothills is preparing to send much-needed items to people around the world. A total of 106 backpacks, loaded with school supplies donated by church and community members, will be distributed. In addition, LCIF’s Quilting Group hand stitched more than 30 quilts to be used as bedding, simple tents or floor coverings. The backpacks and quilts will be distributed through Lutheran World Relief. The items to be distributed will receive a special blessing during this Sunday’s 10 a.m. worship service with Pastor Rick Hall. A potluck will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
A new food drive is underway at LCIF. People are encouraged to bring canned goods to the church for those who are hungry, homeless or unemployed/underemployed. Canned goods can be dropped off during Sunday worship or any time at the church’s office. They will be distributed to the food pantry at Heart of the Canyon Church in Tujunga.
LCIF is planning its annual “Trunk or Treat,” which will fall on the Sunday before Halloween. The community event is a safe, daytime opportunity for kids to wear their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat among decorated car trunks in LCIF’s parking lot. This year’s event will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Visit lcifoothills.org for event details. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Walk and Word
In October, Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on Oct. 15, 22 & 29. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.
Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.
Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.
All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
