On Nov. 5 the Glendale Youth Orchestra, under the direction of music director and conductor Henry Shin, will be performing a concert at the Alex Theatre celebrating the 35^th anniversary of the GYO. Works will include Ramirez, “A Shadow Cast” from the Silhouette of Being (world premier) as part of the California Festival: A Celebration of New Music; Rachmaninoff, “Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor Op. 30,” Everett Lee, piano, 2023 piano competition winner; and Dvorak, “Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88.”

Alongside these works, the Glendale Youth Orchestra will also be featuring the recent winner of the piano concerto competition. This competition was open to any pianists under 18 from Southern California. This concert is part of the California Festival, a two-week, statewide celebration of new music from around the world, showcasing today’s most compelling and forward-looking voices in performances of works written within the past five years.

The California Festival (cafestival.org) brings together 100 organizations and ensembles throughout the state of California including symphony orchestras, chamber music groups, jazz ensembles, choirs and more, all performing new music. The festival is supported by the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.

The GYO is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Dept. of Arts and Culture.

The GYO is by the California Arts Council through the Creative Youth Development Grant.
