Reviewing and Preparing

This is the time of the year that invites us to reflect on the past year while preparing for the new one.

Looking back I’m pretty pleased with the accomplishments of the CV Weekly. We have a dynamic sales team that has brought new business to the newspaper. I’m proud that these advertisers recognize the value of advertising their business and/or service within the pages of the CV Weekly.

In 2023, I was recognized by State Senator Anthony Portantino with a Women in Business Award. That I was nominated by women who felt I deserved the recognition meant so much to me and I’m forever grateful.

During 2023 I learned a lot from our proofreader Anne McNeill. Initially I learned about verb/noun agreement but throughout the years I’ve learned much more. It gives me great pride when I send a piece to her that I’ve already looked over and she returns it with no changes – mission accomplished!

Also in 2023 historian Mike Lawler introduced our readers (including me) to many different aspects of our area, from local rescues to our founding fathers. His column in Viewpoints is one of the most popular in the paper.

In 2023 we gained several talented writers including Mikaela Stone and Eliza Partika. These women not only have a nose for news but also enjoy sharing their stories with our readers – a key component to a successful community newspaper.

We had a robust turnout for our Fun & Frights in the Foothills and Merry & Bright Light and Holiday Display Tour. Folks made a point to tell us how happy they were that we continued these tours that were created during COVID. We were also happy for sponsors ready to support these events.

Looking ahead I’m happy to report that The Finest will return to the pages of the CV Weekly. The Finest is the chance for our readers to cast their votes for businesses and services they feel are the finest in the area. Whether a bakery, auto dealer or chiropractor (and more) The Finest points readers in the direction to get the very best in services and businesses. You’ll find the ballot in the CV Weekly beginning in January and also online; make your selections and get them to us so we can tabulate. We’ll be announcing the winners in the summer.

One goal I have for the CV Weekly is to increase our home deliveries in 2024. Imagine waking up every Thursday morning to find the community’s favorite newspaper in your driveway! Kudos to those who have already signed up for home delivery; let’s get some more in 2024!

Finally, thank you to everyone who has made the CV Weekly a relevant and reliable resource for news. We work hard every week to meet those expectations and are grateful for those who appreciate that hard work.
