CVCA to Meet Feb. 22

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its meeting tonight, Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The meeting will include discussion on local issues as well as an opportunity for Foothill area residents to bring their own concerns. Contact the CVCA at crescentavalleycommunityassn@gmail.com with questions and for Zoom meeting information.

Community Resource Fair

Home Again LA is hosting a community resource fair on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at Glendale First Baptist Church, 209 N. Louise St. in Glendale. Exhibitors include Unite LA, Home Again LA, Comprehension Community Health Clinics, Leeza’s Care Connection, the Armenian Relief Society and more.

This is an opportunity to connect with local partners that are offering resources for community members.

Free to attend.

 

Burrtec Annual Cleanup Event

Burrtec is hosting its annual cleanup event on several dates in February depending on regular trash pickup day. During this event, customers can dispose of unlimited items at no additional cost. Place items at the curb by 6 a.m. of the scheduled event date. Household hazardous waste (such as paint, household cleaners, motor oil, etc.) will not be collected.

Those who have a regular trash pickup day of Monday or Wednesday should have placed items on the curb by 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3; those who have a regular trash pickup day of Tuesday should have placed items on the curb by 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10; those who have a regular trash pickup day of Thursday should have placed items on the curb by 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17; those who have a regular trash pickup day of Friday can place items on the curb by 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.

        

CVHS Performs Musical ‘Matilda’

The Performing Arts Dept. at Crescenta Valley High School presents “Matilda,” based on the Roald Dahl novel. The musical celebrates the story of an extraordinary girl who dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. With the help of her teacher, her friends and a little bit of imagination, Matilda proves that even if you’re little, you can do big things. The 2013 Broadway production of “Matilda” received four Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical.

There will be five performances: On Feb. 23 & 24 at 7 p.m.; on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. and March 1 & 2 at 7 p.m.

Fire House Hosting Mixer

The community is invited to a business mixer at the Fire House youth center, 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta (on the campus of St. Luke’s of the Mountains at Rosemont Avenue) on Tuesday evening, Feb. 27.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., attendees will have the chance to learn more about the Fire House and how to get involved with the CV Chamber of Commerce.

The cost to attend is $15 for nonmembers, $20 for members.

 

Guided Autobiography (GAB) for Older Adults

Community members are invited to explore the fabric of their life in a six-week free series focused on writing and sharing their stories.

Guided Autobiography (GAB) for Older Adults will meet at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., on Tuesday afternoons from Feb. 27 through April 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. They will participate in the method developed by Dr. James Birren, which aids in reflection and sharing experiences from each person’s journey. This process is facilitated by certified GAB instructors as a service of the USC-VHH Community Resource Center for Aging.
