Oct. 5, 1928 – Dec. 31, 2023

Carl John Derksen went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 at the age of 95 surrounded by his family.

Carl was born in Mountain Lake Minnesota on Oct. 5, 1928 to John and Marie Derksen, one of four brothers and one sister. He married the love of is life Ruby in 1951. They lived together inseparable for 72 happy years and had four boys: Steven, Mark, Chuck and Brent. After graduating with a degree in the industrial arts field, Carl taught at Glendale High School for 36 years.

Carl had quite an impact on the students’ lives and was instrumental in obtaining a California State grant for computer aided design classes.

During the summers when Carl wasn’t teaching or vacationing he worked many summers at Bistagne Bros. Body Shop in Glendale.

He had a long-standing relationship with God and was a member of Chevy Chase Baptist Church and La Crescenta First Baptist Church. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his large family. He was a major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Ruby Derksen; children Steven and Dale Derksen, Mark and Lisa Derksen, Chuck and Ann Derksen, Brent and Gina Derksen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
