December 1937 – March 2022

On the evening of March 22, 2022, George Thomas Perez of Bandon, Oregon passed away at the age of 84. George was born to Frank and Isabell Perez in Sunland-Tujunga in December 1937.  

Right after graduating from Verdugo High School, he married Ann Collier and was drafted by the Pittsburg Pirates. They started their married life traveling across the country to start his career in baseball. After a career-ending injury in 1958, they moved back to Sunland where he became a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff. 

After having four children, in 1972 George and his family moved to Leona Valley.

George had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, play handball, gamble and play poker. He was a devout father; he helped his children with their 4-H animals, coached Little League and taught them numerous skills to aid them in the future.

George worked on their cherry tree farm on his days off. He had a big garden and bee hives and nurtured over 200 cherry trees. After he retired from the sheriff’s department, he moved onto building homes. 

When his grown children began their own careers and lives, in 1994 George moved to Oregon to start a new chapter in his life with his wife Mary Perez. Although they enjoyed a quiet life, they built a beautiful place with gardens and fruit trees.

George was an honest, generous and hardworking man. He had a good sense of humor and was known for joking around with his friends. His children meant the world to him.

George is survived by his wife Mary; brother Frank; nieces and nephews; children Randy (Janel), Jenny (Tom), Julie (Mike) and Patrick; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
