LUTHERAN CHURCH TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE
Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) is having a blood drive on Thursday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall. To date, LCIF’s blood drives have collected 292 units from more than 300 donors.

According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood and/or platelets and only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood annually. Those who would like to donate at the blood drive can make an appointment at redcrossblood.org.

LCIF also hosts activities that are open to all this spring and summer: Bible study groups, knitting, quilting, opportunities to learn live-streaming media production and more.
Sunday worship service with Pastor Rick Hall is held at 10 a.m. in person and online.

ARMENIAN CULTURAL CELEBRATION AT LCPC
Everyone is welcome at an Armenian Cultural Celebration on Saturday, May 18 at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church.
Come anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to enjoy Armenian food, desserts, music, dance, games and crafts. The event is free and lunch will be available for $10 per person and coffee and desserts for $1 each.

The celebration will take place in the parking lot of La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave. Street parking is available on Montrose Avenue.

LUTHERAN CHURCH CELEBRATES PENTECOST AND CONFIRMATION
Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) celebrates Pentecost and Confirmation this Sunday, May 19 at 10 a.m. All are welcome. In the church year, the day of Pentecost is the culmination of the 50 days of the Easter celebration. After showing himself to the disciples and after having ascended, Jesus’ followers received the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. On the 50th day of Easter, Lutheran worship is filled with festivity, color and movement the Easter celebration is concluded and the gift of the Holy Spirit is celebrated.

The church reminds the community that it continues to accept non-perishable food donations to feed the hungry. Details on what items are needed can be found on the church website.

LCIF encourages families with young children to pre register for Vacation Bible School. VBS will be held June 17 – 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. It is open to children in grades four through sixth. The cost is $35 for one child, $25 each for two or more kids. There will be lots of singing, dancing, crafts and games, all centered on learning about God in new ways. Families are encouraged to register online through LCIF’s website or by calling the church office.

CELEBRATION FOR THE MINISTRY OF RETIRED BISHOP
All are invited to a service in celebration and thanksgiving for the ministry of retired Bishop Chester Talton. It will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral.
The Program Group on Black Ministries and the H. Belfield Hannibal Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians invite the diocesan community to this event, which will begin with Eucharist and end with a seafood gumbo and peach cobbler dinner reception.
Talton, 82, was consecrated sixth bishop suffragan of the Diocese of Los Angeles in 1991 and served until his retirement in 2010. Prior to his election he was rector of St. Philip’s Church in New York City’s Harlem. He was the first person of African descent to be elected a bishop in the diocese.
