NOTES & NODS

Lutheran Church to Host Events

On Father’s Day there will be a special celebration at Lutheran Church in the Foothills. Dads and recent graduates will be honored on Sunday, June 16 during the 10 a.m. worship service with Pastor Rick Hall. The event is a heartwarming tradition at LCIF, recognizing the achievements of these special individuals. Among the graduates is the pastor’s son, Max Hall, who received his undergraduate degree from Valley City State University in North Dakota.

Additionally, on this Sunday LCIF welcomes Luther Richert, a representative from Mental Health LA. Richert will share insights into the organization’s ministry and the work it does in supporting Angelenos facing mental health crises. The importance of Mental Health LA’s work is further emphasized by the recent $2,000 grant it received from the Lutheran Church in the Foothills Endowment. This financial support will empower the organization to continue providing crucial services to those in need.

Also, a heads-up for those enjoying the church’s Wednesday Night Fun program. Due to Vacation Bible School (VBS), there will be no Wednesday night fellowship on June 19. Late registration for VBS will be accepted if space permits, so interested parents are encouraged to reach out to the church for more information.

Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org, or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd, in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

St. Bede The Venerable in La Cañada to Host Ancient Relic of St. Jude
St. Bede the Venerable in La Canada Flintridge will host the ancient relic of St. Jude the Apostle, cousin of Jesus, on Thursday, June 27 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Church. Veneration will begin at 2 p.m., Mass will be offered at 7 p.m. and veneration will end at 10 p.m.

The relic, widely believed to perform miracles, is a piece of bone

The bone is inside a wooden reliquary carved in the shape of an
upright arm that gives the gesture of imparting a blessing. This visit
is part of the Tour of the Relics of St. Jude the Apostle, which has
already made over 100 stops throughout the United States since it
began last September, and marked the first time the relic has left
Italy in 1,700 years.

Admission is free and open to people of all faiths.

St. Bede the Venerable is located at 215 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada

Flintridge. Additional information can be found at the website at www.bede.org or by calling (818) 949-4300.

Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.
