On Sunday, May 26, the best of La Canada’s Lanterman House was trotted out in all of its glory. That included freshened-up picnic grounds, tours of its sparkling interior and a booth overflowing with vintage and second-hand wares from the Bargain Box manned by volunteers of Assistance League of Flintridge.

New docent Nancy Crawford, or as she put it “excited newbie,” said, “There is a dynamic partnership between the Lanterman Historic House Foundation and the City of La Cañada Flintridge. This summer picnic has been going on for about 20 years.”

Dressing up in period costumes, Long Beach residents Mary Lisa and Bruce Bolton show up every year to picnic, pouring their favorite champagne. They are members of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and support historic preservation events. By the afternoon’s end, about 300 community residents had shown up to take part in the day’s activities.

Located at 4420 Encinas Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, the Lanterman House is a bungalow-style historic house museum on the National Register of Historic Places.
