Notes & Nods

Lutheran Church to Host Events

Lutheran Church in the Foothills sprang into action to support neighbor Rod Clure after a fire broke out at his residence on June 23. Thankfully, Clure escaped unharmed but his house sustained significant damage. LCIF immediately opened its doors. Mark Anzelon, the church’s music minister, and Pastor Rick offered a haven from the heat for their displaced neighbor, providing water and snacks. Clure is known for his friendly and helpful nature, readily assisting families on the street and the church itself. In response to his misfortune, the church community continues to lift him up in prayer. Additionally, a GoFundMe page titled “Let’s Lend Rod a Hand!” has been established to help him with the financial burden of repairs.

The church is hosting a pool party on July 17. Those interested can contact the church office for further details including time and place. This is a perfect opportunity to beat the heat, relax, connect with friends or make new ones. LCIF welcomes everyone to join the fun. Food will also be part of the festivities with pizza and beverages available to keep everyone fueled for a day of swimming and socializing.

For more information on the pool party or how to help Rod Clure, visit the church’s website lcifoothills.org. Visit lcifoothills.org for information on small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on July 14, 21 & 28. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
