There is nothing like seeing a movie under the stars … and that is exactly what is happening at the Doctors House in Brand Park, 1601 Mountain St. in Glendale, with Classic Films Under the Stars on Saturday, July 13.
“This is the second season,” said Randy Carter, one of the founders of the Alex Film Society.
The first film shown was the 1940 Disney Classic “Pinocchio” and it was a huge success, according to Carter.
This Saturday it will be screening “Crime Wave,” a 1954 film noir classic produced by Warner Bros.
The tagline reads “Every mugger-nest, creep-joint and dim-lit dive busts wide-open in the year’s bullet-riddled cops vs. killers sensation!”
The film is shown on the lawn at the Doctors House at Brand Park. Seating is first come, first served.
“Bring your own chairs or blankets,” Carter suggested.
He added movie goers can feel free to bring a picnic basket to enjoy and arrive early to enjoy the evening before the film.
There is also a Glendale angle to “Crime Wave.”
“There are a lot of locations that were shot in Glendale,” Carter said.
The event’s special guest is well-known historian Marc Wannamaker who will be making a presentation on the Glendale locations used.
The event will open with a Bugs Bunny cartoon, “Bugs and Thugs” a great partner to “Crime Wave.”
The outdoor film event is in partnership with the Alex Film Society, Northwest Glendale Homeowner’s Association, The Glendale Historical Society and Brand Associates. The technical facilities are provided by Glendale Community Services and Parks. Event sponsor is G&C Properties.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m.
The event is free to the public.
