IN BRIEF

Information Meeting by GWP

Glendale Water and Power is hosting an informational community meeting regarding the city-owned Solar Development Program at the Glendale Sports Complex. This project includes the installation of carport solar canopies over parts of the Sports Complex parking lot slated to start in November 2024 and be completed by February 2025. GWP invites the Glendale community to join the in-person community meeting on tonight, Thursday, Oct. 3, at Sparr Heights Community Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The estimated solar photovoltaic capacity of the proposed project at the Sports Complex is 1,343 kW, which is estimated to produce over 2 million kWh/year of clean solar energy. That is equivalent to removing 363 gasoline powered cars off the road annually.

This project is one of many city-owned solar projects that will be completed in the next three years throughout Glendale. Phase 1 of the city-owned Solar Development Program was approved by the Glendale City Council in November 2023.

Sparr Heights Community Center is located at 1613 Glencoe Way in Glendale 91208.

More information on this project can be found on the dedicated project website at GlendaleCA.gov/SportsComplexSolar.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning

An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday morning, Oct. 5. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist and Merlin apps to identify birds and add wildlife sightings!

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those with mobility issues who require a closer parking spot should contact the Rosemont Preserve Committee.

Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes and bring water to drink.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.
