Lutheran Church Prepares for Reformation Sunday
A week after celebrating Reformation Sunday, Lutheran Church in the Foothills will celebrate another important date on the church calendar: All Saints Day. On this day, congregants remember and honor their own lost loved ones, as well as the saints celebrated throughout history.
As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA), Lutheran Church in the Foothills uses the Revised Common Lectionary, which provides a three-year series of readings for Sundays and festivals for Christian churches in North America. The Revised Common Lectionary is a work of an ecumenical consultation of liturgical scholars and denominational representatives from the United States and Canada who produce liturgical texts for use in common by North American Christian Churches. The ELCA notes “of all three years of the lectionary cycle, this year’s All Saints readings have the most tears. Isaiah and Revelation look forward to the day when God will wipe away all tears; in John’s gospel, Jesus weeps along with Mary and all the gathered mourners before he demonstrates his power over death.”
All Saints Day worship will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 with Pastor Rick Hall, including music and choir led by Mark Anzelon and pianist Katherine Frantsen. All are welcome. A livestream is offered on the church’s YouTube channel.
Following worship, LCIF is joining La Cañada Korean Church for a lunch of Korean BBQ as the two congregations build relationship. Visit lcifoothills.org for event details. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd in La Cañada Flintridge.
Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
