AAUW HOSTING COMMISSIONERS

American Association of University Women, Glendale Branch, will host two commissioners of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women, Susan Hunt and Chair Paula Devine, at AAUW’s meeting on Saturday, April 16 at Oakmont Country Club.  Hunt will review the creation of the commission, sometimes characterized as the best kept secret in Glendale, while Devine will discuss the commission’s mission, programs, and collaborations.  Brunch begins at 9:00 a.m.; the cost is $23.  Call (818) 773-2227 for reservations.

BEATRIX POTTER IN THE GARDEN

Beatrix Potter in the Garden – an Easter Celebration at the Arboretum takes place on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day’s activities for children ages 10 and younger include the annual Easter egg scramble, Potter stories read by Beatrix Potter Society members, live animals featured in the stories, art and gardening, botanic demonstrations, magic, entertainment, games, face painting and photo opportunities. For an additional cost, a special “Brunch with Peter Rabbit” is offered for the entire family.

Event entry fees are $5 per child for members and $10 per child for non-members. Regular Arboretum admission fees apply for non-members.

WILDFLOWER WALK DESCANSO

On Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Descanso Gardens is offering a Wildflower Walk. Learn about native spring flowers in the California Garden and get inspiration for your own garden. ARTS FESTIVAL COMING TO BURBANK

Browse thousands of works of art for sale, participate in interactive art projects and enjoy nonstop live entertainment at the Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival on San Fernando Road between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  More than 30,000 art patrons are expected to attend.  The Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival is free and open to the public.

The four-block show features more than 100 outstanding artists and the next generation of talent from Burbank schools, as well as numerous opportunities to support quality arts education with Burbank Arts for All.

MCMS TO HOST ARC

The Montrose Christian Montessori School PTO is hosting representatives from the American Red Cross on Tuesday, April 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the school. The ARC will present Ready for Disaster at Home and at School.

Knowing what to have ready and what to do in case of an emergency promotes a feeling of being calm and safe.  Attendees will learn how to prevent problems before they happen, prepare by having supplies and create a plan to respond effectively and calmly.

This is a free presentation open to the entire community including upper elementary students.

EASTER CARNIVAL COMING TO SUNLAND

The Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Easter Carnival at Sunland Park on Friday, April 22 beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing through the weekend. The fun and excitement begins with the Apperson Elementary Drill Team, Vince Lombardi Band and Sandra Dickson Dancers and Alice in Easterland will be at the park daily. This year’s carnival boasts one price, all day, all rides admission of just $20 or for those who just want to stroll through without rides it’s a $5 admission; children 2 and under free. Photos with the Easter Bunny any day and highlights include the Easter Egg hunt on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by a visit from Ronald McDonald at 2 p.m. There will be many bands of different genres, an art contest, the multi-denominational blessing on Saturday and the dance contest on Sunday. All weekend long guests can chow down by purchasing all of their favorites from some of Los Angeles’ famous food trucks including Crepe’n Around, Komodo, Germany’s Famous Bratwurst, George’s Greek Cafe and many others.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC

Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).

The next concert on April 20 features The KEWA Ensemble that will perform the Ravel String Quartet in F Major.

“TASTE OF SPAIN” ENHANCES DRIVE

The Glendale Historical Society (TGHS) is spicing up its annual membership drive with “A Taste of Spain” reception at a private historic residence in Glendale on April 30. Admission is open to current TGHS members and those that renew at the door, plus new members who join at the event.

“A Taste of Spain” will be presented from 5 to 7 p.m. at a beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival home. Attendees will be able to enjoy sangria and sample from a light buffet of appetizers. Location details will be provided when attendees RSVP.

Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. Members who bring non-members who join at the door will gain complimentary admission for themselves and the new members.

TEA PLANNED BY WOMAN’S CLUB

The La Crescenta Woman’s Club Juniors and Evening Section will hold a Spring Tea at the clubhouse on Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Celebrate an early Mother’s Day with someone special. Delicious lunch, desserts and special teas, musical entertainment and opportunity drawing.
