EASTER CARNIVAL COMING TO SUNLAND

The Sunland Tujunga Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Easter Carnival at Sunland Park on Friday, April 22 beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing through the weekend. The fun and excitement begins with the Apperson Elementary Drill Team, Vince Lombardi Band and Sandra Dickson Dancers and Alice in Easterland will be at the park daily. This year’s carnival boasts one price, all day, all rides admission of just $20 or for those who just want to stroll through without rides it’s a $5 admission; children 2 and under free. Photos with the Easter Bunny any day and highlights include the Easter Egg hunt on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by a visit from Ronald McDonald at 2 p.m. There will be many bands of different genres, an art contest, the multi-denominational blessing on Saturday and the dance contest on Sunday. All weekend long guests can chow down by purchasing all of their favorites from some of Los Angeles’ famous food trucks including Crepe’n Around, Komodo, Germany’s Famous Bratwurst, George’s Greek Cafe and many others.

SUNRISE EASTER SERVICE AT FOREST LAWN

Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills will host its annual non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service on April 24 beginning at 6 a.m.  The service offers community residents an opportunity to gather in a beautiful outdoor setting to celebrate the miracle of The Resurrection.

The Hollywood Hills service will feature an inspirational message from Dr. Carolyn L. Gordon, associate professor of communication and chair of the preaching department at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, while the Southern California Mormon Choir, under the direction of Jan Bills, will provide uplifting choral music.

The Hollywood Hills service will take place in the forecourt of the Birth of Liberty mosaic, America’s largest historical mosaic. Forest Lawn* will host sunrise services at seven of its locations, including Covina Hills, Cypress, Long Beach, and Cathedral City, as well as Spanish-language services in Glendale and Coachella.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC

Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).

The next concert on Wednesday, May 4  will feature LaCañada resident flutist Ruth Kasckow who will appear with flutist Mark Frankel from Pasadena as Duo Grazioso.

NEW TANG DYNASTY COMING TO PASADENA

New Tang Dynasty Television presents Shen Yun Performing Arts Shows on April 28 and April 29 at 7:30 p.m., April 30 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., May 6 at 7:30 p.m., May 7 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and May 8 at 2 p.m.

The shows take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium (also Escondido & Costa Mesa). O’DALY AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE AND COFFEEHOUSE

On Friday, May 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse hosts a reading and book signing for William O’Daly, poet and translator of nine books by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. O’Daly reads from “The Hands of Day,”  “Book of Questions,” and the most recently published “World’s End.” O’Daly is also includes some of his original work in the program, which ends with a Q&A session.  Historical flutes played by Rick Wilson, Professor of Mathematics at Caltech, accompany the readings.

PRETTY LITTLE PRINCESS FASHION SHOW AND TEA

WAW Talent Training and Performing Studios is inviting little girls ages 5-11 to dress up in their fanciest attire for play dates on three Saturdays: May 14, 21, and 28 at the Community Center of La Cañada from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. These special little princesses will learn to walk the runway with poise, participate in “mock” photo shoots, apply play make up, wear high heels and get all dolled up in fancy accessories provided by us. The princesses will also learn to stand up straight, introduce themselves, sit properly and speak up in front of their Royal Court.

Family and friends are invited to the final class on May 28 when they will enjoy the “Pretty Little Princess Fashion Show” while being served tea and sandwiches made by their little princesses.

“TASTE OF SPAIN” ENHANCES DRIVE

The Glendale Historical Society (TGHS) is spicing up its annual membership drive with “A Taste of Spain” reception at a private historic residence in Glendale on April 30. Admission is open to current TGHS members and those that renew at the door, plus new members who join at the event.

“A Taste of Spain” will be presented from 5 to 7 p.m. at a beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival home. Attendees will be able to enjoy sangria and sample from a light buffet of appetizers. Location details will be provided when attendees RSVP.

Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. Members who bring non-members who join at the door will gain complimentary admission for themselves and the new members.

The African Violet Society of Montrose will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at Descanso Gardens in the Maple Room. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

TEA PLANNED BY WOMAN’S CLUB

The La Crescenta Woman’s Club Juniors and Evening Section will hold a Spring Tea at the clubhouse on Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Celebrate an early Mother’s Day with someone special. Delicious lunch, desserts and special teas, musical entertainment and opportunity drawing.

WAW HOLDING TALENT CONTEST

Applications are being accepted for the Second Annual “WAW California Starz Talent Contest” on May 7 at noon at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. WAW Talent Training Studios and The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge are hosting this community-wide event that showcases the talent of local kids ages 7 to 21. First, second and third places will be awarded in each of four categories: vocal performance, instrumental performance, dance and beauty. Winners will receive cash and prizes
