The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station has received an award from the Altus Global Alliance for their achievements as a Citizen-Centric organization.

The Palmdale Station received first place, South Los Angeles received second place followed closely by Crescenta Valley for their third place honor.

“I am honored that the positive work we have been doing over the many years of policing is being recognized,” said Capt. David Silversparre.

Altus Global was founded by six established non-government organizations and academic centers. Members span five continents, Altus offers a global view on issues of safety and justice, a greater capacity to work across borders and a larger role for civil society in advancing justice, according to the Altus website.

Last fall a group of representatives of Altus from the community toured the Crescenta Valley Station armed with a 20-question questionnaire.

The questions cover “five core categories of the police station assessment: Community orientation, physical conditions, equal treatment of the public without bias based on age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, minority status, age or sexual orientation, transparency and accountability and detention conditions,” according to the website.

During the tour Sgt. Ken Binkley and Silversparre guided the members around the station for about two and a half hours.  After the questionnaires were filled out they were sent to Altus for assessment. Silversparre was then told of the award.

“It is a great honor,” Silversparre said.
