It was a show of thanks on Friday evening as CV varsity baseball supporters were treated to the annual fan appreciation night at Stengel field.
In addition to the action on the field – the boy’s varsity baseball team took on the Pasadena Bulldogs in an exciting Pacific League matchup – the booster club oversaw a variety of activities for those who came out to cheer on the home team.
The club sponsored an opportunity drawing of which the proceeds benefitted a baseball camp run by the Falcons for children in second through eighth grades. Items included Dodgers tickets, Angels tickets, an iPod and even a bike. Team parents arranged for Los Gringos to serve tacos in addition to the traditional baseball meal of hotdogs and chips.
A face-painting booth provided a fun way for fans to show their support for the Falcons. Mountain Avenue Elementary School second grader Dana Lee Ryan sung the national anthem at the start of the game, saying afterward that she enjoys “sharing her voice with other people.”
The game itself was tense, pushing on into the night past the scoreboard’s shutoff time. Perhaps the news spurred on the Bulldogs who took a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning of the game. But in an exciting turn of events, the Falcons tied the game up before another out forced the game into extra innings.
Falcon Cameron Silva had the game winning hit that enabled Tyler Pollack to run in for the score, ending at 4-3 CV.
