Three students at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy were named winners in the annual essay contest sponsored by the Los Angeles Times in conjunction this year with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kaiser Permanente. The essay topic revolved around achieving a healthy lifestyle.
Rachel Koo, a boarder from South Korea, took first place in the freshman category; Yanie Sun, a boarder from Shanghai, was the third place winner at the junior level, and Vanessa Romero from Pasadena was the second place winner in the senior group.
The girls attended a luncheon at Dodger Stadium where each received a cash award, a framed copy of his or her essay, four tickets to a Dodger game and Dodger memorabilia. The guest speaker was Dodger legend Tommy Lasorda, who told the students they were all winners.
“I’m very proud of the girls, and they were thrilled to be honored in such a wonderful way,” said FSHA Principal Sister Celeste Botello.
