Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Council meeting planned

The CV Drug and Alcohol Council is holding a meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 at Crescenta Valley High School. The council is a grass roots organization comprised of parents and community members who are concerned about keeping students safe from drugs and is also an outreach for families.

Annual College Career Fair coming

The 17th Annual College and Career Fair sponsored by the Glendale Unified School District is coming to the Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401 Verdugo Road, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The event is free to the community. Over 100 colleges from all over the U.S. will be represented, with academic information as well as admissions requirements. Financial Aid seminars will be provided by Glendale College staff in the conference room downstairs. The seminars are offered in English, Armenian, and Spanish. Parking in the structure adjacent to the Civic Auditorium will be available.

Veterans Day events planned

There will be a Veterans Day vigil, POW/MIA and flag retirement ceremony at Two Strike Park at the war memorial on Wednesday, Nov. 11. From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. a veteran or other representative will stand guard at the war memorial. At 3 p.m. a POW MIA place setting ceremony will be conducted followed by a flag retirement ceremony.

Participants include VFW Post 1614, American Legion Post 288, Crescenta Valley JROTC and Boy Scout Troop 288.

Forum planned for CVTC candidates

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will hold a candidate forum for the seven candidates for the Crescenta Valley Town Council at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Dunsmore Park Community Room. The Crescenta Valley Town Council serves as the local elected representation for the unincorporated county section of the Crescenta Valley. It reports La Crescenta and Montrose concerns over development, traffic, parks, and other issues to L.A. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich. The council is directly responsible for such things as the new library, several high profile traffic improvements, and the improved development standards for Foothill Boulevard.

Payne and city of Glendale present wildfire seminar

Southern California Wildfires: Protecting Our Homes and the Natural Environment is a seminar taking place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Clark Magnet High School in La Crescenta. This free event features guest speakers Richard W. Halsey and Jon E. Keeley, two of the region’s most respected experts on fire, local ecology and post-fire regeneration. Presented by Theodore Payne Foundation and the city of Glendale, seating is on a first come basis.
