Fremont Elementary School Field Day had students hopping like frogs, hula hooping and racing in a water brigade.

Principal Christin Walley pulled from her physical education background and organized a day of health and fitness. In addition to the many races that challenged the students’ endurance and teamwork were health stations. Glendale firefighter Mark Masto stopped by to answer questions about his job and to remind the students to drink water during their races.

Kids hopped like frogs as part of the activities.

In the auditorium a representative from Glendale Memorial Hospital showed kids how much sugar was in some of their favorite drinks.

It wasn’t just about winning the race but the way the race was run that mattered.

“The kids are getting chips for sportsmanship, for helping their team and other teams,” Walley said.

In a beach race, kids brought chairs and sand toys.
