HAUSSLER AT BOOKSTORE FOR SIGNING, DISCUSSION
On Thursday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m., Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse hosts Michael Haussler, author of “Results May Vary.”
In his debut novel, Haussler tackles the very tough and very real problems that confront a teacher and a student on a day in a Los Angeles high school. His writing is rich and descriptive; his years as an educator give the book realism, you feel the frustration but still sense of hope.
Haussler has been teaching in Los Angeles for 30 years in both public and private high school settings. He currently teaches at California State University, Los Angeles, where he trains and supervises new teachers in the credential program.

ALAN JACKSON GUEST OF REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE
At its next meeting on Wednesday, June 29, the La Cañada Flintridge Republican Committee is hosting Alan Jackson, Republican candidate for Los Angeles district attorney. The dinner meeting takes place at the La Cañada Country Club beginning at 6:30 p.m. with social mix and mingle, then the meeting, dinner and program starts at 7 p.m.

CELEBRITY AND HISTORICAL MEMORABILIA, ART AUCTION
Goldberg Coins & Collectibles is hosting a manuscript and collectibles auction offering celebrity and historical memorabilia as well as artwork of celebrity images and works from masters on July 9. The auction has 1,007 lots of manuscripts and collectibles. There will be a space, aviation and stamp sale on July 10 comprised of over 700 lots. Amongst these items are remnants of the flag that was placed on the moon by Apollo 11 astronauts signed by Neil Armstrong.

WALK WITH EASE HOSTING KICK OFF EVENT
The Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease Program will have its official kick-off on Sunday, June 26, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
Walk With Ease is a structured walking program that teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life. This informational event will feature health and fitness tips for people with arthritis and other chronic conditions as well as those who just want suggestions for the safest approach to make walking a daily habit.
The program will begin with a short 30-minute walk lead by an Arthritis Foundation Certified Trainer on the Brookside Park grounds surrounding the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.  The trainer will model proper stretching and pain management techniques, as well as describe ways to build stamina and find a comfortable walking pace.

THE LITTLE LANDERS HISTORICAL SOCIETY PARTICIPATES IN BLUE STAR MUSEUM PROJECT

Monday, May 30 was the launch of the nationwide Blue Star Museum Project.  This project is a partnership among more than 1300 museums, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Blue Star Families, an organization that supports active duty military families. This NEA project recognizes and thanks our military families for all they are doing for our country and begins young people on the path to becoming lifelong museum goers. In 2010, the inaugural year for the project, more than 300,000 military family members visited the Blue Star Project partner museums. Bolton Hall Museum is proud to join the project this year. Throughout the summer, the museum exhibit and events will pay tribute to the long history of military service and wartime efforts in Sunland-Tujunga.
The museum will have special hours on Monday, July 4 and will be open from noon until 3 p.m. There will be an opportunity to visit with some of the “historical characters” from the 4th of July parade.

GOLF TOURNEY AND BALL DROP TO BENEFIT LOCAL KIDS
The public is invited to join Pasadena Child Development Associates on Monday, June 27, at Brookside Golf Course for a day of golf and fun to support children with special needs. This inaugural tournament kicks off with a putting contest before the shotgun start. Golfing includes lunch with beverages on the course, a $10,000 Hole-In-One hole and a family barbecue dinner at the end of the day.  Part of the fun will be a putting contest and a Golf Ball Drop when one lucky person will win a $500 prize.
Individual golfer prices are $175 and golf foursomes are $600 ($100 savings); lunch and the tri tip barbecue dinner are included for all golfers.  Golf balls for the ball drop can be purchased for $5 per ball.
Pasadena Child Development Associates (PCDA), founded in 1997, is a nonprofit organization providing therapeutic services to special needs infants and children who have a wide variety of development concerns.

L.A. IS WORKING COMING TO LA CAÑADA
L.A. is Working is a free job search event for business executives and managers taking place on Thursday, June 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Cañada Presbyterian Church. A group of successful career coaches and employment and human resources experts have come together to provide a helpful and informative free program to assist business executives with their current job search. Attendees will learn how to get the attention of hiring managers in the Los Angeles’ job market, through a number of job-search-strategy sessions. The session topics include: resume writing, interviewing skills, working with a headhunter, overcoming age bias and more. The morning will also provide the perfect opportunity for networking.
