The 4th of July holiday weekend is here and we will be celebrating in the Shopping Park on Sunday. I love going to this car show! It’s so fun to see all the shiny, one of a kind cars displayed against the backdrop of our unique stores. They just seem to go together. Throw in waving American flags, blooming jacarandas, friends and neighbors and you have the recipe for a happy day.

Last week, we talked all about the cars. There are going to be over 200 vintage hot rods and classic cars on display. This week, I want to give you the scoop on all the fun things we have put together. There will be two live bands playing. Our signature Gremoli New Orleans Jazz Band will be bringing what they do best. In addition “Surfin’ With Elvis” will be performing surf oldies and classic rock. These bands just seem to go with the cars and will surely set the mood.

Mark Sheridan, our Harvest Market manager, has lined up some special events at the Market. This Sunday it’s all about watermelons. There will be a watermelon eating contest, plant starts, tips on how to grow them, recipe cards and a carving display put on by Pampered Chef. In addition, Heritage Organic Milk will have a promo booth set up with a homemade ice cream crank, prizes and smoothies.

This is “Prime Harvest Market Time.” Mark says this is the last shot for cherries. The crops were affected by the late spring this year so now is your last chance to load up. Apricots are now at their peak and so are all kinds of berries. You will want to buy extra to freeze and make delicious pies.

So do come out. The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all three blocks of HonoluIu will be closed to traffic so you will have plenty of room to stroll. I will be out there taking pics for the Montrose Shopping Park blog and hope to meet you.
