Two lots approved on Willowhaven

The L.A. Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a lot split to create two residential parcels at 2716 Willowhaven Drive in La Crescenta. The board previously rejected a proposal to create three lots on the property, a former single family site on three-quarters of an acre. Neighbors complained the three lots would create too much density and would create grading traffic and slope issues. One of the new parcels will have access off Rockpine Lane, while the other is a flag lot with a driveway access off Willowhaven.

Community meeting on Station Fire

The city of Glendale is holding a community meeting on the Station Fire at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Clark Magnet High School, 4747 New York Ave. A review will be given on the post fire mud and debris flow reports and ha ard maps, a presentation on emergency evacuation plans for local schools will be made and plans for the recoery of local neighborhoods and parks will be offered.

Cell towers topic of meeting

Regulations on cell phone towers will be discussed at a meeting Saturday, Nov. 7 at Sparr Heights Center, 1603 Glencoe. The 90-minute meeting will begin at 11 a.m., and will be the third of three public sessions to review a proposed moratorium on the towers. Community groups across Glendale have expressed concerns about the aesthetics and health issues relating to the towers, which have been springing up across the foothills. The city had adopted a moratorium on approving new projects while comments are sought about new regulations. After receiving comments, the draft ordinance will be presented to the Planning Commission for consideration, and than go on to the council.

Among many other things, the upcoming draft ordinance establishes two new permits: wireless facility encroachment permit for installations in the public rights-of-way; and permits for installations on private property.

Both types of permits will have new application requirements, specified preferred zones and locations, more widespread community notification, expert reviews when necessary, required findings of fact for approval, facilities standards and design requirements and safety and monitoring standards. The draft ordinance will also require compliance with FCC’s radio frequency emissions regulations.

Reminder that Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Glendale Fire Department also reminds citizens to change out the batteries in their smoke detectors and make sure to test for an audible alarm.

Verdugo hike and trail run

Join the communities of Burbank, Glendale and La Crescenta in exploring the Verdugo Hills hiking trails on Saturday, Nov. 7. Trail runners will leave from Brand Park (Glendale) beginning at 8:00 a.m. Hikers will leave from La Tuna Canyon (Crescenta Valley) or Stough Canyon Nature Center (Burbank) beginning at 8:00 a.m. Additionally, hikers will have a Stough Canyon “Hike Lite” option with a start time of 9:00 a.m. The hikes and trail run will be held rain or shine. The fee is $10 per person. A meal and special Verdugo Hills Community Hike souvenir are included in the fee.
