Summer usually means an abbreviated meeting for the Crescenta Valley Town Council and that was the case again for the meeting on Aug. 18 inside the La Crescenta Library Community Room.
Instead of speakers, there were a slew of announcements including a date change for the September council meeting.
To accommodate Crescenta Valley High’s Back to School Night, the next CV Town Council has been changed from Sept. 15 to Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. The discussion then will center on the high school’s open campus policy, and Dr. John Garcia from the Glendale Unified School District will be speaking. The CVTC website, www.thecvcouncil.com, currently has a poll that residents can click on to offer their opinion on the policy. The council is eager to gather public input and urges folks to visit the site.
The deadline to apply for a seat on the town council is Oct. 16 at midnight. Those interested in becoming council members this fall can download an application from the website. Elections are Nov. 5.
On Sept. 24, The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition, in partnership with the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce, will sponsor a 5K Run/Walk fundraiser. Funds collected for CVDAPC will go toward funding an after-school sports program at Rosemont Middle School.
“This is something that [Rosemont principal] Cynthia Livingston feels very strongly that she wants an after school sports program so that the kids can be involved in that critical time period,” said Nancy Stone, the coalition’s vice president. Stone said the goal is to raise $10,000. To participate in the Run/Walk, contact the chamber office at (818) 248-4957.
The council’s pancake breakfast will be on Oct. 8 at 7:30 a.m. in the quad at CV High. Tickets cost $5 and councilmember Dennis van Bremen said half the proceeds of each ticket goes to groups that sell them, like the Falcon football team or the school’s music department.
“When they sell tickets they get half for their program, so it’s just a wonderful thing,” van Bremen said.
