Also announced Wednesday were the federal Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) results. Like the state API, the federal AYP assessments utilize the same statewide Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) tests, and the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). GUSD showed an overall gain of 2.5% proficiency in English Language Arts in 2011, and a gain of 5.4% over a two-year period. The District also showed a marginal gain of 0.2% in

Mathematics.
The English Learner subcategory of students grew in both subjects, gaining 3.5% proficiency in English Language Arts and 1.1% gains in Mathematics.
