Friends and supporters of Angela Young, a local woman who is participating in the Susan G. Komen 60 Miles in 3-Days walk in November, stopped by Boob-a-Palooza at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club on Saturday, Sept. 17 to get a massage, have their photo taken or buy cooking items – all in the name of raising funds for Young and her team, “Hoofin it for Udders.”
The fundraiser took place from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and donors included Spa Pura and local Pampered Chef consultants, one of which was Young. Visitors also enjoyed a DJ, a raffle and a variety of food. All proceeds from the raffle, all tips from the massages and reflexology sessions, and 15% of the Pampered Chef sales benefitted the Komen for a Cure Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Though fewer people showed up than was hoped, organizer and fellow Pampered Chef consultant Dawn Levine said those who stopped by were encouraging.
“Everybody was really supportive,” said Levine. “Several [cancer] survivors stopped by which was actually nice. We made a sign that will be held up during the [November] walk signed with words of encouragement.”
Levine added that though this year’s turnout was lighter than expected, another fundraiser would probably be held next year.
