MASSAGE ENVY, ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION JOIN FORCES
Massage Envy has joined forces with the Arthritis Foundation to host Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one-day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight arthritis. On World Arthritis Day, Oct.12, Massage Envy Spa Glendale will donate $10 from every one-hour massage and facial to the Arthritis Foundation. Prices for facials and massages are $59 and $49.

Additionally, Murad®, Massage Envy Spa’s strategic skin care partner, will donate 10% of all sales from their products sold at Massage Envy Spa locations during the event to the Arthritis Foundation.


QUARTERBACK CLUB HOLDING MEETINGS

The Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club meets every Tuesday until Thanksgiving at the Glendale Elks Club at 11:30 a.m. There are guest speakers and coaches from local schools Glendale Community College, Glendale High, Hoover High, Crescenta Valley High, St. Francis High and Village Christian High Schools update the membership on their progress through the season.

VHAA TO HOST ART DEMO

Richard Martinez will give a watercolor demonstration for the Verdugo Hills Art Association on Oct. 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the La Cañada Community Center. The demonstration is open to the public. The price is $5 for guests.

Martinez has received numerous awards throughout his lifelong career as an artist. He has participated in the National Watercolor society show and two years ago was asked to sit on the board of directors of this prestigious group.

His vibrant watercolors of landscapes, seascapes, rivers or picturesque cities depicted in his colorful and joyful paintings reflect a Southern California warmth. For 36 years he taught art in all forms at Claremont High School.

CV ARTS COUNCIL PAINT OUT 2011
Calling all artists for the second annual 2011 Crescenta Valley Paint Out, sponsored by the Crescenta Valley Arts Council! It’s an exciting opportunity for local artists to capture the architecture and natural settings of the Crescenta Valley on canvas, and display their artwork in a juried exhibition.  Awards categories include adult, youth, best in show, community favorite, and theme award for best expression of the Crescenta Valley. Join us in this celebration of our community’s artistic heritage! Registration begins Friday, Oct. 7 at Whites Art Framing and Restoration (open Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

FOLK TALES OF SUNLAND-TUJUNGA
In the Sunland-Tujunga area, folk tales and creepy stories abound. Some are based on real events and others have been created in the minds of the authors.  Come and hear several of these stories on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. when the Little Landers Historical Society hosts Folk Tales of Sunland-Tujunga. A booklet of some of these stories will be available after the program for a nominal donation.

The program is free.  Everyone is welcome.  It is being held at Bolton Hall Museum.

AAUW HOSTING MARIA SCHELLPFEFFER

The American Association of University Women, Glendale Branch, next meets on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. at the Oakmont Country Club. Guest speaker will be Maria Schellpfeffer who leads the Mission Planning and Sequencing Team for the Juno Mission to Jupiter at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Schellpfeffer has also worked on several other deep space robotic missions including the 2003 Mars Exploration Rovers, and the 2007 Mars Phoenix Lander.

REHRMANN EXHIBIT AT WHITE’S

Fine artist Marina K. Rehrmann, 2nd vice president of the Glendale Art Association (GAA), will show her latest works along with other local artists at the upcoming juried art exhibition GAA’s Fall Salon during the month of October at White’s Framing and Art Restoration Gallery in Montrose. The artists’ reception is on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include an evening of fine art, fine food and fine music. A portion of the purchase proceeds will sponsor art scholarships for local high school students, a tradition of the GAA since it started in 1922. Rehrmann’s works will also appear in the GAA exhibit at Unity Fest Glendale on Sunday, Oct. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. on Brand Boulevard.

GLENDALE QUILT GUILD MEETING
The next meeting of the Glendale Quilt Guild is on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Glendale Central Library. The speaker is Judy Sisneros, quilter, teacher and author of books on quilting techniques. She will lecture on Imagination & Inspiration and will offer a trunk show of about 50 quilts. Included are funny stories and funny quilts.
