GEOLOGY OF THE CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Crescenta Valley was born from a marriage of natural disasters earthquakes and floods. For hundreds of thousands of years the mountains on either side of us – the Verdugos and the San Gabriels – have been pushed skyward by massive earthquakes. Nearly as fast as they rise they, fracture and fall back into the Crescenta Valley, the rocks and boulders pushed across the landscape by giant floods.

Hear how this landscape was formed, where the earthquake faults are located and what geologic changes we can expect in the future. Independent oil geologist Thom Davis will be the speaker at the next meeting of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living. Davis lived in the valley for many years and has become fascinated with our dynamic and constantly changing landscape. His views are sometimes controversial so be prepared!
