Red Cross hosts night of fun

The Glendale-CV Red Cross is hosting its annual Comedy Night emceed by Fritz Coleman on Nov. 1.

Coleman and other talented stand-up comics will put on two shows for the benefit of the Red Cross Chapter. Show times are 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at the Glendale Centre Theatre. Tickets are $25 and $45. Those who pay $45 will receive reserved seating and admission to a VIP reception at Phoenicia, 343 N. Central, before the 8:15 show.

Fashion show fundraiser planned

The Patrons’ Club of Glendale Community College is planning a fundraiser for scholarships for deserving students.The event is being held on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Castaways Starlight Ballroom, 1250 Harvard Drive, Burbank. The theme this year is “Up, Up, and Away.” The annual fashion show will feature ensembles from Holiday Hats & Gowns of Montrose. Tickets are now available at $45. per person. Woman’s Club hosting authors

The La Crescenta Woman’s Club is holding its annual Author’s Lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive in La Cañada. Featured authors are Mary Pat Kelley with musical acco paniment; mystery writer Michael Mallory; and writer and actress Rosemary Lord. Bring a friend and enjoy the program, lunch, door prizes, silent auction and book signing. Tickets are $35 per person, reservation deadline is Nov. 2. Veterans Day events planned

There will be aVeterans Day vigil,POW/MIA and flag

retirement ceremonyat Two Strike Park at the war memorial on Wednesday, Nov. 11. From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. a veteran or other representative will stand guard at the war memorial. At 3 p.m. a POW/MIA place setting ceremony will be conducted followed by a flag retirement ceremony. Participants include VFW Post 1614, American Legion Post 288, Crescenta Valley JROTC and Boy Scout Troop 288.

Tasty Veterans’ Day,

Enjoy tastes from 19 local restaurants from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce “Taste in the Foothills” fundraiser at the Marketplace Shopping Center, 2629 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. The CVHS Jazz Band will be performing. Tickets are $15; funds raised will go toward the Veterans War Memorial at Two Strike Park.
