The Value of a Good Night’s Sleep

Julia Rabago is the executive director of Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know it just as well as you.
We are all learners, doers and teachers.” Richard Bach

Here is a tidbit of information to learn. At www.bettersleep.org, they answer the question: How often should mattresses be replaced or how long do they last? Mattresses wear out on different timetables. This is due to numerous factors such as how the mattress was used (guest room, master bedroom, doubled as a trampoline for the kids), whether it was cared for properly and/or the quality of the mattress itself. Other important considerations are how personal comfort levels or a person’s lifestyle and body may have changed over the years.

We encourage you to think about these things and ask yourself the following questions: Are you sleeping better or worse than you did a year ago? Are you waking up feeling stiff and sore? Does your mattress have visible signs of wear and tear? Would a new mattress improve your sleep?  If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then it’s time to consider purchasing a new mattress. Where better to purchase your mattress than our own local Pyramid Sleep Shop?

This local gem is located at 3131 Foothill Blvd. and owned by Denise Lenardson. I sat down with Denise and asked the following questions:

How long have you owned Pyramid Sleep Shop? I have owned the shop for almost four years; however it was opened in 1979, 33 years ago and was owned by the same owner until he retired when I bought it four years ago.

What are you known for or what is your specialty? I sell all types of mattresses at the lowest prices available. I can keep my prices low because I carry private label mattresses from a local distributor that are exactly the same as the brand name mattresses, due to all mattresses being subject to California industry standards. I can sell the same quality as the big store brand names but for half the price.

What do you like most about what you do? Meeting new people and the rewarding feeling from having a happy customer.

What continues to set you apart from your competition? Personal, knowledgeable customer service, low prices and non-aggressive sales tactics.

What is your biggest challenge? Getting the local Crescenta Valley to know we are here.

What has been something fun that has happened to you as a business owner? Eddie Mekka, Carmine from the “Laverne & Shirley” TV Show came in and filmed a scene for a comedy DVD to send to the troops. Also last week the TV show, “The Price Is Right” purchased a waterbed to use as a prize for one of their upcoming showcases.

So if you would like to sleep more soundly, knowing you saved money on your new mattress, please visit Denise at Pyramid Sleep Shop, 3131 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, (818) 957-0261. After 33 years of her shop being in the Crescenta Valley, it’s time you stopped by and said “Hi” and you will probably sleep better knowing you shopped local!
