La Crescenta Presbyterian is pleased to present the world renowned Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda, Africa on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
The Watoto Children’s Choir is an African children’s choir based in Kampala, Uganda, at Watoto Church (formerly Kampala Pentecostal Church or KPC). It is composed of about 18 children, mainly from Uganda. Watoto means “children” in Swahili. The choir is made up of children who have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic or to war. The choir has toured Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, Brazil, The Netherlands, China, Germany and Australia with a team of Ugandan adults.
Their performances are a unique blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. They have released several albums including “Cast Your Burdens,” “Jesus You Alone” and “Mambo Sawa” (life is good), their latest album. Their unique ministry also comprises four children’s villages, three babies homes, two primary schools, a high school and a vocational school.
