Free Electronic Waste

First Baptist Church La Crescenta is hosting its fifth free electronic waste collection event on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Electronic devices that can be collected include TVs, phones, tape players, photocopy machines, household batteries, computers, monitors,  printers, cords and other computer hardware. It will be safely and legally recycled by E-waste Center, Inc. www.ewastecenter.com.

CVDAPC Hosting Speaker
The public is invited to hear guest speaker Alexandra Datig, founder of Nip It In The Bud, at the next meeting of Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Crescenta Valley Library in the upstairs community room. Datig will speak from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. about marijuana dangers and issues of legalization legislation. The CVDAPC general board meeting will follow from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Preparing for Rainy Season
Sand and sandbags are now available in anticipation of the rainy season.
Empty sandbags are available at fire station 63 at 4526 Ramsdell Ave.; station 19 at1729 W. Foothill in La Cañada; and station 82
at
352 N. Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada. Sand is available at Two Strike Park at 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta.


“The Big Cone Theory” at
Deukmejian
The City of Glendale, Community Services and Parks Dept. is holding a Deukmejian Wilderness Park workday, “The Big Cone Theory,” on Saturday, Nov. 19.

From 8 a.m. to noon, participants can help plant Big Cone Spruce and Coast Live Oak trees. Planters are advised to wear sturdy closed toe boots or shoes and protective clothing and bring drinking water, sunscreen, gloves and hat. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Heavy rain will cancel the event.

Energy Rebates Available
Los Angeles-area homeowners now can receive up to $8,000 in rebates and incentives by making energy-saving upgrades to their homes through the Energy Upgrade California (EUC) in Los Angeles County program.

Homeowners who achieve at least 20% energy savings through qualified home energy improvements performed by a participating Energy Upgrade California contractor can receive $4,000 back from Los Angeles County. In addition, local utilities are offering up to $4,000, which means that L.A. County homeowners who achieve maximum energy savings with home energy upgrades may receive a total incentive of $8,000. Rebates available on a first come, first-served basis. The incentives are available to Los Angeles homeowners as part of Energy Upgrade California in L.A. County.
