Forever Thankful

“Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life.”   Christiane Northrup

Julia Rabago is the executive director of Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

I am appreciative of the great town we live in. The Crescenta Valley boasts great mountainous views, wonderful schools, superb weather and a great community. I hope everyone who lives here appreciates the Crescenta Valley and shows their gratefulness by shopping and eating local.

Another thing to be thankful about is all of our heroes of the Crescenta Valley and beyond. We have the brave firefighters that put their lives on the line to save our homes and lives. Thank you also to the sheriffs and police that brave the unknown to protect us. And thank you to the heroes of freedom that sacrifice everything for our country.

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend an event that will honor our service personnel. On Dec. 8, join us for a USO Canteen fundraiser for the rebuilding of the Heroes of Freedom Two Strike Park War Memorial.

Originally built in 1959, the new memorial will pay tribute to all La Crescenta service personnel that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Names of those who gave their lives for our freedom from World War I to current will be listed. The USO Canteen night will go back in time to the 1940s, including Canteen hostesses, Christmas dinner, Officer’s Bar, coffee and donuts table, silent auction and prizes. Musicians from Crescenta Valley High School will entertain with ’40s swing music and the CVHS ROTC will present the POW/MIA Table Ceremony prior to dinner. All proceeds will benefit the WALL. The fundraiser will be held at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, 4004 La Crescenta Ave. Cost for the USO night is $25 and reservations can be made at the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce. For additional information, call the Chamber office at (818) 248-4957, or by email at cvcoc@aol.com.

Please remember to shop and eat local this holiday season, enjoy this great community we live in and most importantly thank a hero!
