In October, the Montrose-La Crescenta Kiwanis, with president Lynn McGinnis, hosted the second annual Giant Interclub and Bowling Challenge at Montrose Bowl. Teams from seven Division 3 Kiwanis Clubs competed for high scores and their chance to receive this year’s bowling trophy. The current Division 3 Kiwanis Lt. Governor Cathy Keen was the inspiration for the design of this coveted award. When all the scores were tallied, the team from La Cañada Noon Kiwanis earned bragging rights and took home the prize.

Earlier this month, Montrose-La Crescenta Kiwanians worked alongside Crescenta Valley High School Key Club members as they served up strudel, brownies, pretzels and churros during the Montrose Oktoberfest. Montrose-La Crescenta Kiwanis also support the charters and activities of the Key Clubs at Clark Magnet High School, Verdugo Hills High School and Village Christian School, as well as the Builder’s Club of Rosemont Middle School, K-Kids of Pinewood Avenue Elementary, one team within the CV Little League and five local Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops. Proceeds from fundraising projects throughout the year, including a quarterly Bingo Night, help to fund community activities such as Prom Plus, the Wheelchair Division of the L.A. Marathon, the La Crescenta Library Children’s Section, the Montrose Christmas Parade, the Salvation Army Food Bank and the Youth Firehouse – also supported by St. Luke’s and St. George’s Episcopal churches, partnered with the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition.

In addition, the Montrose-La Crescenta Kiwanis Foundation funds a scholarship program. The Foundation awards nine scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors from Crescenta Valley and Clark Magnet. Students interested in applying for a scholarship can obtain instructions and forms from their school’s student counselor.
