The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a USO Canteen fundraiser tonight to rebuild the Heroes of Freedom Two Strike Park War Memorial. The event will take place at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, 4004 La Crescenta Ave., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The memorial, which was built in 1959, pays tribute to those from La Crescenta who sacrificed for the country. The names of these people who served from World War I to the present will be listed.
Admission for the evening is $25 and includes a Wartime Ration Card for dinner, a drink ticket to the “Officer’s Club” bar and a raffle ticket. The theme for the evening will hark back to the 1940s, and the CVHS Jazz Band will be playing swing music from that time period. Dinner will include baked ham, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, and salad and rolls, along with baked sweets for dessert.
Additionally, there will be a silent auction for items including rings, wreaths, a photo autographed by former Dodgers player and manager Tommy Lasorda, and more.
Further information about the fundraiser can be obtained by calling the chamber of commerce at (818) 248-4957 or by sending an email to cvcoc@aol.com.
