Attitude of Gratitude
Special thanks to all who made the USO Canteen night special. It takes a community, and we have one of the best, to make the Two Strike Park War Memorial Wall a reality.
The evening began with 1940s theme music played by the Crescenta Valley High School Jazz Band under the direction of Mathew Schick. Guests were greeted by canteen hosts and hostesses Leslie Lesh, Holly Heurkins and Andy Goldsworthy. Taking photos along with the CV Weekly and Glendale News Press was our own 40s press photographer Amber Hood.
Following the music and dancing, Lt. Col David Worley led the Crescenta Valley High School AFJROTC in the touching MIA/POW ceremony. This was followed by the National Anthem.
Of course there was food of the 40s including traditional baked hams, macaroni and cheese prepared by Red Thunder (Mark Miller) and desserts by Julie Dowse and Tracy Fisher.
Tending the canteen bar was Mike Maluccio.
We thank the La Crescenta Woman’s Club for the use of their beautifully decorated clubhouse, Jeri Spayth for wrapping all the silverware, the silent auction donations, the many members of the Crescenta Valley Chamber, VFW and American Legion for setting up all those tables covered with festive tablecloths from Bonner’s Party Rentals, and yes, putting them all away at the end of the evening.
We thank you, the community, for being there. Eventually we will have this Wall!

Chase Fan
I want to tell Jim Chase just how much my husband and I look forward to reading his columns each week. He is a very talented writer and captures the human comedy so well. I feel that I know his family through his columns and enjoy following his adventures.
